Bridging the Gap Between Managing and Leading

Leader Managers

A Two-Day Workshop for Managers Who Must Deliver Results and Inspire People at the Same Time
“Management is doing things right. Leadership is doing the right things. The best managers do both, deliberately.”

Most management training teaches process: how to plan, organize, monitor, and report.

Most leadership training teaches people: how to motivate, communicate, and inspire.

Very few programs address the much harder, more practical question that real managers actually face every day: how do you do both at the same time, with the same person, in the same meeting, without one undermining the other?
Leader Managers is IKTAR’s Management and Leadership Training Pakistan is program for exactly this challenge. It is built for managers who are evaluated on targets, deadlines, and operational results, but who only achieve those results through people who need to be led, not just managed. The program treats management and leadership not as competing skill sets but as two hands on the same wheel, and teaches participants to use both with intention rather than defaulting to whichever one feels more natural.
This program sits alongside Learning to Lead and Lead to Succeed in IKTAR’s leadership portfolio, but addresses a different question. Those two programs develop a manager’s personal leadership capacity over time. Leader Managers addresses the specific operational tension of holding both roles simultaneously, and is equally valuable to participants regardless of where they are in their broader leadership development.

Who This Program Is For

Leader Managers is designed for:

• Operations and production managers who are measured on hard targets but also responsible for team morale and retention
• Department heads who feel they must choose between being liked and being effective, and want a better framework than that false choice
• Managers who are strong on process and reporting but whose teams describe them as distant, transactional, or hard to approach
• Managers who are well-liked and trusted by their teams but struggle to hold people accountable to deadlines and standards
• Organizations that have noticed a split in their management bench: some managers who deliver but burn out their teams, others who are beloved but underdeliver

If your managers are good at one half of the job and weak at the other, Leader Managers is built to close exactly that gap, not by choosing a side, but by teaching both disciplines as one integrated practice.

What Participants Learn

By the end of the two days, participants will be able to:

• Distinguish clearly between a management problem and a leadership problem, and respond to each appropriately
• Hold team members accountable to targets and deadlines without damaging trust or morale
• Use management systems, reporting, and process discipline as tools that support people rather than control them
• Recognize when a situation calls for firm direction versus when it calls for coaching and space
• Build a personal management style that does not require choosing between being respected and being approachable
• Apply a practical framework for switching between management mode and leadership mode within the same conversation

Methodology

Program Structure and Methodology

Format: Two-day in-person workshop
Group Size: Optimal cohort of 12 to 20 participants
Methodology: Diagnostic self-assessment, paired and group role plays, real workplace case analysis, and a personal management-leadership balance action plan
Delivery Options: Public workshop with scheduled dates, or in-house program customized to your organization

The workshop opens with a short, honest self-assessment that helps each participant see whether they default toward management or leadership under pressure. The rest of the two days is built around strengthening whichever side is weaker, using real scenarios from participants’ own teams rather than generic case studies.

Why IKTAR

IKTAR designed Leader Managers after noticing a consistent pattern across 25 years of consulting and training Pakistani organizations: businesses rarely have a shortage of either management talent or leadership talent. What they actually lack is managers who can do both at once, deliberately, rather than defaulting permanently to one side. This program was built specifically to close that gap rather than to repeat generic content already covered in other leadership programs.
This program is led by Shafqat Jilani, a Certified Master Trainer (Futures Group, Washington DC) with over 25 years of experience working with managers across Pakistan’s manufacturing, services, banking, and social sectors, where this exact management-leadership tension shows up constantly in different forms.
Following the workshop, IKTAR provides a free training review report identifying each participant’s natural tendency, the specific situations where it serves them well, and where it is likely to cause friction if left unmanaged.
